Tax Credit Capital, LLC has worked with accounting firms, CFOs, individuals and businesses for more than 25 years to help offset Louisiana income and franchise tax liability with the use of Louisiana historic tax credits. We have participated in historic projects all over the state of Louisiana, from Bastrop to New Orleans and places in between.
The LA historic tax credit (website) was created in 2002 by the Louisiana Legislature to encourage the redevelopment of income-producing historic buildings in Louisiana. The legislation has been reauthorized multiple times, including as recently as 2015 when HB 387 was enacted to extend the credit until January 1, 2022. This is a tax credit program with an undisputed (and completely positive) track record in LA. It is a revenue generator, a job creator and according to a 2011 study by Dr. Timothy P. Ryan, the present value benefit to the state is $3.22 for every $1.00 of credit granted to a project.
The process to purchase and claim these credits is a simple one. There is a straightforward purchase agreement executed by the individual or business. Then, the various filings with the Department of Revenue and the Tax Credit Registry are handled by our office. The process of filing the tax return and utilizing the tax credits is also simple. The taxpayer claims the credits on the LA return (there is a line item for this) and attaches just two forms to that return, the Transferable Credit Payment Voucher (R-6170) and a copy of the Registration Form (R-6135) that the Louisiana Department of Revenue issued to the taxpayer.
There is currently no processing fee collected by the state on the transfer of historic tax credits, as is the case with some other types of tax credits.
